The renovation of the Meeting House is the first phase of the master plan completed in 2000. The fine 1955 original design by George Lykos needed to be brought up to date to meet with current demands. The program called for adding 50 seats to the space for a choir, a parenting room for young children, a green room, a larger usher’s room and an improvement to the acoustics among other amenities. The music director was anticipating a new organ.

The design responded to all of the requirements by adding a mezzanine for the choir and heavily scalloping the ceiling to create better acoustic and conceal new lighting. Collaboration with the organ designer created a space suitable for religious services as well as concerts and theater productions.

The principal materials used for the renovation were cherry-stained mahogany paneling, bamboo flooring, recycled carpet, structural and light gage steel and sheet rock.
