The Miramar Water Treatment Plant's $200 million, 10-year renovation includes the redesign of all major facilities on the existing site. The project scope includes a comprehensive remodel of the facility that will produce 215 million gallons of potable water per day to satisfy San Diego's current and future water requirements. This 215 MGD treatment plant is located directly adjacent to the Miramar Reservoir, a recreational facility used by local commmunity members and County of San Diego citizens at large, as well as the Scripps Ranch community.

During schematic phase, this project was carefully navigated to successfully address sensitive neighborhood issues and fit into the area of land directly adjacent to Miramar Reservior. The prominence of the plant, in view from the Reservior's recreational facility, suggested that the architectural and landscape characteristics must be complimentary to the existing overall site aesthetics.Solutions to these environmental and community concerns were implemented with creative landscaping and building treatments. The Architectural character of several new buildings (below and above ground) was composed as a whole to create an aesthetic that will complement this extremely sensitive community.
